Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this beadwork?

A: Yes. The beads are woven on a loom.

Q: What type of loom do you use?

A: I use a Mirrix loom – https://www.mirrixlooms.com/. I presently own three different sizes.

Q: What type of beads do you use?

A: I use Myuki Delica 11/0 beads. They are made in Japan and are very uniform in size and shape.

Q: Do you weave in all the ends or maybe knot them? (I think that’s sometimes common practice.)

A: I weave in all the ends. It takes time but looks good when it is done.

Q: On a Word chart does Row 1 start at the bottom of the piece or the top?

A: With my patterns, Row 1 typically starts at the bottom left-hand corner of the piece.  I don’t know how other designers do this. Some work from the top down; others work from the bottom up.

Q: Where do you get your patterns?

A: There are a few patterns available online. You have to search for them. Be cautious. Only buy patterns that have been tested and show you a finished product.

Some of my patterns are ones I make from cross stitch patterns I purchase.

Some are patterns I create in a beading program from photographs or non-copyright images on the internet.

Q: Are your patterns available in peyote stitch?

A: Some of the patterns are available in both loom and peyote stitch. Others are just for loom weaving. The pattern description will show which are for loom and which are for loom or peyote.

Q: How many beads are in a 5 gram container? Most bead stores are now selling beads in 5 gram containers.

A:  There are approximately 180-200 beads in 1 gram depending on the bead finish. (Some beads are heavier than others). A half pack (50g) of Delica 11/0 equals approximately 9-10,000 beads.
